Staff Manager Setup
Staff Manager, Pterodactyl Setup Guide
Learn how to install and configure ClassTech Staff Manager using Pterodactyl Discord Bot Hosting.
- A Pterodactyl panel with permission to create a server
- A Staff Manager licence
- Your Discord bot token
- Your Staff Manager product files
- Administrator access to the Discord server where Staff Manager will be installed
1. Create Your Pterodactyl Server
Log in to your Pterodactyl panel and navigate to the server creation area.
When creating the server, select a Node.js or JavaScript based Discord bot egg provided by your hosting provider.
| Server Type | Node.js / Discord Bot |
| RAM | 512 MB or more |
| Storage | 1 GB or more |
| CPU | 1 vCPU or more |
The exact options available may differ depending on your Pterodactyl provider.
2. Upload Staff Manager
Open your newly created Pterodactyl server and navigate to the Files section.
Upload the Staff Manager product files into the server's main directory.
Upload the contents of the Staff Manager package rather than creating an additional nested Staff Manager folder unless the package specifically requires it.
Your server should contain the main Staff Manager files, including the bot's entry point and package files.
3. Install Dependencies
Pterodactyl provides a console that allows you to run commands directly on your server.
Open the Console tab and run:
Wait for npm to finish installing all required dependencies before continuing.
4. Configure Your Discord Bot
Staff Manager requires a Discord bot application. If you have not already created one, create an application through the official Discord Developer Portal.
Create your application and bot, then copy the bot token provided by Discord.
Your bot token provides access to your Discord bot. Treat it like a password and never post it publicly or send it to other users.
5. Configure Staff Manager
Staff Manager requires its configuration to be provided before the bot can start correctly.
Depending on your Staff Manager version, this may be done through environment variables or the configuration file included with your product.
Replace the example values with the credentials supplied for your Staff Manager installation.
Do not paste your real Discord token or licence key into support channels, screenshots or public websites.
6. Configure Your Discord Bot
Before inviting Staff Manager to your Discord server, configure the required bot permissions and intents in the Discord Developer Portal.
Staff Manager may require additional privileged intents depending on the features included with your version.
Enable the intents required by the Staff Manager documentation before starting the bot.
7. Invite Staff Manager to Your Server
Use the OAuth2 installation options in the Discord Developer Portal to generate an installation link for your bot.
Select the appropriate bot permissions required by Staff Manager and install the bot into your Discord server.
Only grant Administrator if it is genuinely required for your configuration. Where possible, use the minimum permissions required for the features you intend to use.
8. Start Staff Manager
Return to your Pterodactyl server and open the Console.
If your Pterodactyl egg is configured to automatically run the bot, simply press Start.
If you need to start the application manually, use the command appropriate for your Staff Manager package, for example:
When Staff Manager has successfully connected, the Pterodactyl console should show the bot starting and connecting to Discord.
9. Configure Staff Manager
Once the bot is online, complete the initial Staff Manager configuration in your Discord server.
Depending on your version, this may include configuring:
- Staff roles
- Management roles
- Logging channels
- Command permissions
- Moderation settings
- Staff management settings
Follow the commands and configuration options included with your Staff Manager version.
10. Keep Staff Manager Online
Pterodactyl automatically manages the server process. Once your server is configured correctly, you do not need to use SSH, PM2 or nohup.
Simply use the Start, Stop and Restart controls provided by your Pterodactyl panel.
Enable automatic restart options within your Pterodactyl server configuration where available. This helps Staff Manager recover automatically if the process unexpectedly stops.
11. Troubleshooting
Staff Manager immediately stops
Check the Pterodactyl console for the error that caused the process to stop. Common causes include missing dependencies, incorrect configuration or an invalid licence.
Licence validation failed
Confirm that the licence key has been entered correctly and that the server can connect to the ClassTech licensing service.
Bot is offline
Check that the Pterodactyl server is running and review the console for errors. Also confirm that the Discord bot token has been configured correctly.
Bot cannot perform an action
Check the bot's Discord permissions and make sure the bot's role is positioned correctly within your server's role hierarchy.
