RoGuardian Setup

RoGuardian Installation & Setup

Follow this guide to install RoGuardian on an Ubuntu VPS, configure Roblox authentication, and keep your bot running reliably.

Before you begin

You will need an Ubuntu VPS with SSH access, your RoGuardian files, and access to the Roblox account used by RoGuardian.

1. Upload the RoGuardian Files

The easiest way to upload your RoGuardian files to your VPS is by using an SFTP client such as FileZilla or WinSCP.

Using FileZilla

  1. Open FileZilla and select File → Site Manager → New Site.
  2. Set the protocol to SFTP, SSH File Transfer Protocol.
  3. Enter your VPS IP address as the host.
  4. Set the port to 22.
  5. Set the logon type to Normal.
  6. Enter root as the username and enter your VPS root password.
  7. Click Connect.
  8. Locate your RoGuardian folder on your computer.
  9. Upload the folder to /roguardian on your VPS.
RoGuardian directory
/roguardian

2. Configure Roblox Authentication

⚠ Keep your authentication cookie private
Never share your Roblox authentication cookie with anyone. Anyone with access to it may be able to access the associated Roblox account.

RoGuardian requires Roblox authentication credentials to connect to the Roblox account.

Step 1, Connect to your VPS

SSH
ssh root@your_server_ip

Step 2, Create the environment file

Navigate to your RoGuardian installation directory:

cd /roguardian

Create your .env file:

/roguardian/.env
cat > .env <<EOF
ROBLOSECURITY=your_cookie_here
EOF

Replace your_cookie_here with the required authentication value.

Protect the environment file:

chmod 600 .env

3. Install Node.js and npm

Update the Ubuntu package lists and install Node.js and npm:

apt update
apt install -y nodejs npm

You can verify the installation with:

node --version
npm --version

4. Install RoGuardian Dependencies

Navigate to the RoGuardian directory and install the required Node.js packages:

cd /roguardian
npm install

5. Test RoGuardian

Start RoGuardian manually to confirm that everything is configured correctly:

node index.js

Check the terminal for errors and confirm that RoGuardian starts successfully. Once you have confirmed that it works, stop the bot using Ctrl + C.

6. Keep RoGuardian Running

We recommend using PM2 to keep RoGuardian running in the background and automatically restart it if the process stops.

Install PM2

npm install -g pm2

Start RoGuardian

cd /roguardian
pm2 start index.js --name roguardian

Save the PM2 configuration

pm2 save

Enable automatic startup

pm2 startup systemd
Tip

PM2 will provide an additional command after running the startup command. Copy and run that command as instructed by PM2.

7. View RoGuardian Logs

View the live RoGuardian logs with:

pm2 logs roguardian

Check the current PM2 status with:

pm2 status

8. Restart RoGuardian

If you make changes to RoGuardian or its configuration, restart the bot with:

pm2 restart roguardian

9. Useful PM2 Commands

# View running processes
pm2 status

# View RoGuardian logs
pm2 logs roguardian

# Restart RoGuardian
pm2 restart roguardian

# Stop RoGuardian
pm2 stop roguardian

# Start RoGuardian
pm2 start roguardian

# Remove RoGuardian from PM2
pm2 delete roguardian

# Save the current process configuration
pm2 save
